The Marriage of Miss Esther Helen Ledig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ledig of Tenth Street, Upland, with Lyle M. Schrock, son of Mr. and Mrs J. E. Schrock of Upland, was celebrated Saturday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents.

Poem written by Esther (Ledig) Schrock to her mother.

DECEMBER 7, 1941

The sun shone warm on the fields today
The song of the birds was lilting and gay
I wished that you could come once more
With your dear smile -- and open the door
And say come in --- or shall we sit
Out in the sun and warm up a bit.

I wanted you back -- to love -- to see
I wanted you just once more -- to talk to me
I saw so many Mothers -- old and gray
Other's Mothers -- and God took mine away.
They walk in the sunshine, among the flowers
God gives to them these proceous hours.

You sleep through dawn, through all the day,
Oh why did God take you away?
Then far over the ocean and out of the sky
Enemy bombers began to fly
And I was glad that you did not hear
The news that came, and need never fear.

You are beyond all hurt and pain,
And we would not wish you back again.
He took you away in that last long sleep,
From which none ever return -- to weep
You rest in peace -- your work is done
For you at least -- the Battle Is Won.
