"Christian Unzicker's daughter, Jessie Lucretia Unzicker Rodabaugh has graciously given me (Viola Unzicker Atkinson) permission to use her notes of the history of the decendants of Stony Hollow. I (Viola) am deeply grateful and honored to include them in our family "Book of Remberance" (Viola Unzicker Atkinson's book was used to input most of the Unzicker data in this database).
These interesting news items were written in a letter to me (Viola) on November 11, 1981."
"I have corresponded, also, with a Wolfgand Unzicker of Munich, West Germany. He is a lawyer for the State of Bavaria and was for many years the Chess Champion of West Germany, sometimes ranking fourth in the world! My daughter, Kay, stayed at their house in 1974 during the Olympics. Wolfgang Unzicker's father was alive then, and had a hobby of family history. He learned that the family had originated in Switzerland, near Lake Lucerne, were Mennonites, and had migrated into Southern Germany. Some branches got into Hesse-Darmstadt, and Wolfgang's branch ended up near Munich. Their coat-of-arms as described by Wolfgang is identical with the Unzicker coat-of-arms which hung in the lobby of the Alms Hotel in Cincinnati. Mrs. Alma was an Unzicker, the daughter of Dr. Charles Unzicker, a nephow of our Daniel Unzicker; therefore, we are undoubtedly related, though quite distantly, to the Chess Champion of Germany!
My darghter-in-law is a painter. She frequently paints from photographs. Thus it is that on the walls of our home there hang pictures of Daniel's grand old barn that Peter built, the lovely stone house of Stony Hollow that Daniel built, and the still lively ruins of the large Spring House.
Louis D. Rodabaugh sent me (Viola Unzicker Atkinson) a bulletin of the Greentown United Methodist Church, where he is the organist. His mother (Jessie L. Rodabaugh) was the oldest member of the Greentown U.M.C., joined the Darrtown Methodist Church 93 years ago (as of approx. 1981). Her ten year older sister, Mary Magdalena Unzicker was the organist, playing on a pump organ. During the academic year of 1936-37, Louis was instructor of Mathematics at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas." She and H. R.
